Crown Green Bowls is a game of great skill as it features an additional obstacle, that flat green doesn't offer. A
Crown Green is a grassed area made higher in the middle than at the
edges and is played in any direction all over the playing surface. This
makes for a great deal more variety than the flat green version.
The
game has always been associated more with pubs and clubs, and it
thrives very happily within its home base in the North of England. Somehow,
the individual games manage to criss cross and weave over each other
without many calamities, only the odd broken shin here and there!

Even though the club has been part of the community for many years now, our green is only about fifteen years old.
Those
enthusiastic players prior to this used to treck off into the wilds and
use The Red Lion green. This would keep their hands in and get some
valuable battles played against the local natives!!
After the factory closed, Wigan Council offered the community the use of the ajoining field and facilities.
